In America in the beginning, the performance arts achievements of the young Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely place her into the category of child prodigies. This is a natural trait for a girl who was of Irish heritage, that was surrounded during her early days by talented family members and parents. This passion was combined with an equally natural gift of performing. That was apparent when she won each Feis for theatre and drama which Ireland could offer. She was accepted at the Abbey Theater by age 14 She then was able to fulfill her goals of opera and classical singing and theater.
